Back in Indiana
After a long 13 days, we are back where we belong.
Mail hold was delivered a day too early instead of being held for pick up as requested.
Return flight from Seattle to DFW was great. Connecting flight to Kansas City was missing. No aircraft was available. Had to wait 3 hours for a flight to come in. Looked like we were arrive in KC about 1:30 AM, long after the motel shuttle stopped running. Grandchildren provided the solution. Being eager to reunite with mom, she said she'd pick them up at the motel. I asked her to pick us up at the airport and drive us to the motel to get their pre-cruise dirty clothes from our car. Worked great.
A gate agent in Seattle chose to order a wheel chair for DH because he was limping with a cane. What a relief to know we'd have it. However, at DFW, it was at the end of the ramp, without an aid, instead of at the beginning. There was no agent to tell us where to connect with our next flight. I pushed the wheel chair to where we could check the flight board. We had to go up & down in elevators, take two shuttle trains and check with a couple of gate agents, before we finally found the correct terminal and gate.
In KC, a wheel chair was by the ramp but we didn't know if it was ours so DH limped up the ramp. A skycap(?) saw the cane and ordered us to wait. He went down the ramp grabbed the chair and brought it to us. He then pushed it from gate 85 to baggage claim around gate 15. He got both bags off the carousel and pushed the chair back to gate 85 to meet our ride. This was close to 2 AM and when we thanked him, he said, 'My pleasure.' (Yes he was tipped).
At the motel, the desk clerk reassigned our room so we wouldn't have to climb stairs. He carried a heavy bag to our room. At breakfast, the shuttle driver said she would have come in to pick us up. These were the same 2 people who got us started on the journey a week earlier at 5 AM.
We didn't sleep much. Had breakfast and hit the road. I napped, I drove, and I napped some more. We stopped for lunch. Then he drove & I napped and I drove while he rested. He suggested he could stay in our lane better and drove the rest of the way to our son's. Hard to believe we stayed up til 11 or 12 talking. Got up about 8 visited until 11 then headed home and I slept some more on the 90-minute drive.
And that's just adventures after the 7-night cruise.
